Journal History

Al-Jamiah, a journal of Islamic Studies published by Al-Jami'ah Research Centre of State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta since 1962, can be said as the oldest academic journal dealing with the theme of Islam, Muslim Society, Islamic History, and Literature seen from various perpsectives. In the beginning the name Al-Jami'ah (literally means "university") referred to music group, theatre group, and discussion circle, established by A. Mukti Ali on every Friday night in Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University. The name Al-Jami'ah is still retained by these groups. Along the history of the campus which has changed and devoloped, Al-Jamiah has also undergone various changes, improvements, and development in formats, styles, and policies of publication. The journal has been accredited by the Indonesian Ministry of Research and Techonology and Indonesian Institute of Science with A mark as an international journal. Al-Jami'ah has also been indexed by Proquest, Ebsco, Scopus and national indexes: Portalgaruda and Moraref. In the field of Social Science and Humanity, not only is Al-Jami'ah the oldest journal in the country, it also was the first journal indexed by the Scopus.
